Pride March route changed due to flooding

As a result of ongoing flooding at the waterfront in Fort Frances, the route for the 2022 Pride March, originally set to begin at the Sorting Gap Marina, has been changed in order to ensure participant safety and to comply with municipal emergency orders.

The Pride March will now assemble at the front entrance of the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre (601 Reid Avenue), proceeding west on Gillon Street, south on Frenette Avenue, and west on Scott Street to Rainy Lake Square (235 Scott Street). The Pride March will still take place on Saturday, June 11 at the originally advertised times.

Participants are asked to meet at the library at 11:15 AM on Saturday, June 11 for a chance to win prizes, take photos, and get in the Pride spirit. The march will begin around 12:30 PM, with an expected arrival at Rainy Lake Square at 1:00 PM for a performance by internationally acclaimed YouTube sensation CHOIR! CHOIR! CHOIR!.

Full event details are available at www.borderlandpride. org. Organizers remind participants that weather is always a variable for outdoor events, and that in the event of bad weather, updates will be posted to Borderland Pride’s Facebook and Twitter pages on the day of the event.

High water at the Sorting Gap Marina and Front Street in Fort Frances has forced Borderland Pride to alter the route for this Saturday’s Pride March. The new plan has participants meet at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology centre for the Rainbow Rally at 11:15 a.m., before be- ginning the March at 12:30 p.m. and then arriving at the Rainy Lake Square at 1:00 p.m. for the Choir!Choir!Choir! concert (to be held at Knox United Church in the case of rain). –Borderland Pride photo

Borderland Pride wishes to thank all of the volunteers and public servants who have been working tirelessly to protect homes and property. We encourage citizens to pitch in by volunteering to fill sandbags with either the Town of Fort Frances (at Shevlin Wood Yard daily) or Couchiching First Nation (at the band office).
