One of Canada’s top country groups will take the stage at the Townshend Theatre here later this month to kick off another “tour de Fort” season.
“Prairie Oyster” is set to perform Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. as the first “encore” show, meaning those who don’t have tour de Fort passports can attend.
Tickets cost $20 each, which are available at the Fort Frances Public Library and Northwoods Gallery and Gifts.
“If you enjoy good music, then this is one of Canada’s top performers. It is definitely worth the money,” said tour de Fort spokesman Rod Newman.
The group—which features Russell deCarle, Joan Besen, Keith Glass, Dennis Delorne, and John Allen—has released six albums so far, with hits such as “Man in the Moon,” “Did You Fall in Love with Me?,” “Good-bye, So Long, Hello,” “Something to Remember You By,” and “Such a Lonely One.”
Their latest album, “What is this Country,” was released in 1999.
Having won several Canadian Country Music awards, including single of the year, country album of the year, and album of the year, “Prairie Oyster” is known as one of the most dynamic and innovative forces in Canadian country music.
The band’s mixture of roots and country has made it a favourite among music lovers.
“We thought this would be a great way to kick off the season,” Newman said.
“This is a top-quality act,” he enthused. “But better get your tickets now. They are starting to move quickly.”
