Poster contest finalists chosen

The 14 finalists for the 2006 “Meet Me at the Border” poster contest were announced yesterday.
They were chosen from the more than 70 entries by students in Fort Frances and International Falls.
One winner from each age division will be chosen during the community barbecue today at 4:30 p.m. at Smokey Bear Park over in the Falls.
The finalists in Category I (ages six-eight) are Taylor DeGagne (St. Michael’s), Fawn Perrault (Huffman), Walle Prymak (Huffman), Alexis Mose (Huffman), and Sonya Whitecrow (Robert Moore)
Finalists for Category II (ages nine-11) are Cassidy Bruyere (Huffman), Bryanna Clinker (Robert Moore), Jenna Field (Robert Moore), Thomas Onichuk (Huffman), and Kevin Metke (Huffman).
And the finalists for Category III (ages 12-14) are Brooke Hargis (Falls High School), Nikki Sheperd (J.W. Walker), Sara Kellar (J.W. Walker), and Shenice McKelvie (J.W. Walker).
The poster contest and barbecue, which is free and open to the communities of International Falls and Fort Frances, are part of today’s “Meet Me at the Border” community celebration, which also included dragon boat races and a cross-river tug-of-war.
The poster contest called for entries to depict the positive aspects of being a member of the border community. Local judges determined the finalists.
Today’s “Meet Me at the Border” events are intended to highlight the unique nature of the border communities of International Falls/Fort Frances, which are a great example of the close cultural, economic, and personal connections shared between the U.S. and Canada.
