Fort Frances Mayor Dan Onichuk, International Falls Mayor Shawn Mason, and Kim Butler, the Consul General of Canad, have announced the start of the 2006 “Meet Me at the Border” poster contest.
The contest—open to students in Gades K-12 in Fort Frances and International Falls—is presented as part of the upcoming “Meet Me at the Border” community celebration on Friday, June 30.
Contest entries will be displayed in both communities, and winners will be chosen during an awards ceremony at a complimentary community barbecue beginning at 4:30 p.m. on June 30 at Smokey Bear Park in the Falls.
Entries should depict the positive aspects of being a member of the border community.
Those wishing to participate are encouraged to submit an 11” x 17” entry and registration form by 5 p.m. on June 20 to either:
•Office of Mayor Shawn Mason, City Hall, 600 4th St., International Falls, Mn., 56649; or
•Office of Mayor Dan Onichuk, Civic Centre, 320 Portage Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3P9.
(Supplies and registration forms are available at both offices listed above).
In addition to the barbecue and poster contest, additional activities will be held in both communities during the “Meet Me at the Border” celebration on June 30 (details to follow).
The day’s events will help to highlight the unique nature of the border communities of Fort Frances/International Falls, which are a great example of the close cultural, economic, and personal connections shared between the U.S. and Canada.
Communities in other states and provinces along the border will be holding similar events throughout the summer.
