Phase II of the bio-mass roads project is coming to an end soon, as the paving of Portage Avenue is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Weather-permitting, the paving will start at the intersection of First St. East and Portage Avenue sometime between 8-9 a.m. on Tuesday. The intersection will be closed for about six hours, said Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown yesterday afternoon.
Then, the intersections of Third Street East and Portage Avenue and Fifth Street and Portage Avenue will probably be closed on Thursday, with the intersection at Sixth Street and Portage Avenue to be temporarily closed a short time after that.
The exact times for each intersection being closed is unknown at this time, said Brown. However, each intersection will be closed for approximately six hours to complete the paving.
Brown noted the town will be putting out a paving schedule once Bay City Contractor’s sub-contractor Pioneer is on-site to finalize details, but he did stress that no intersection will be closed over night.
Over the course of the paving job, a 60mm bottom lift of asphalt will be laid down on Portage Avenue from First Street to Sixth Street, then Pioneer will go back to the start and put down a a 60mm top lift of asphalt.
The entire paving job will take five-eight days.
