Police seeking public assistance in fire investigation

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in the aftermath of a structural fire, which destroyed a shed beside the former NorWest Animal Clinic.

On March 5, 2024, officers of the Rainy River District OPP were conducting general patrol duties and located a small structure fire in the shed. The structure is located on the corner of Portage Avenue and Church Street, next to the vacant former clinic.

Fire crews were dispatched to the blaze at approximately 10:53 p.m. The Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service responded with 11 firefighters, with a pumper truck and rescue truck. Fort Frances Power Corporation, Enbridge Gas and Fort Frances Public Works assisted by disconnecting utilities and closing roads in the area.

There were no injuries reported. Police remain on the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
