Police nab two copper wire thieves

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, members of the Rainy River District Detachment Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the Atikokan Hydro compound on Mackenzie Avenue for a complaint of copper wire theft.
A detailed police investigation as well as evidence left at the scene lead officers to an Atikokan couple who were taken into custody a short time later.
A Scenes of Crime Officer from the Rainy River District (Atikokan) OPP attended to assist with the investigation.
An Atikokan male, 27, has been charged criminally with break and enter, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence.
An Atikokan female, 19, has been charged criminally with Break and Enter, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
Both parties are scheduled to appear in Atikokan Provincial Court on Oct. 27, 2011 to answer to these charges.
