Police leading sudden death investigation

Police appealing to the public for information

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking for public assistance in connection with a suspicious death in Fort Frances.

On January 25, 2022 at 10:14 a.m., members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the OPP located a deceased person at a Portage Avenue business. The officers had been in the area investigating another matter. Rainy River District EMS was called and the victim was pronounced deceased. Police have determined the death to be suspicious.

The deceased has been identified as Daniel Morrison, age 37 of Lac La Croix First Nation.

Investigators believe there is no threat to public safety.

An investigation is being conducted by the Fort Frances OPP Detachment and Crime Unit, assisted by the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit and OPP Regional Support Team, under the director of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

A post-mortem was conducted January 26, 2022 in Kenora.
