Police investigation into disappearance of Murray Beninger ongoing

More than a month after being declared missing, the Rainy River District OPP say the investigation into the disappearance of Murray Beninger is still ongoing.

Beninger, 51, was last seen in Fort Frances on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m. In the month since, the OPP have continued their investigation into his disappearance, but said they will not be releasing any more information at this time to protect the integrity of the search.

“The Murray Beninger missing person investigation remains active,” the OPP said in a statement to the Fort Frances Times.

“To protect the integrity of the investigation we are not releasing any new information at this time. If anyone has information on this case they are encouraged to contact the OPP by calling 1-888-310-1122. If people want to remain anonymous, they can always submit tips through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.”

Beninger is described as being five-foot-seven (170cm) with brown hair and eyes and a heavy build. According to police, he may have been wearing a purple jacket and brown boots at the time of his disappearance.
