Point beach closed

Pither’s Point beach remains closed for swimming.
The beach was declared off-limits late Friday by the Northwestern Health Unit as a result of routine beach water sampling.
Water quality tests for Pither’s Point Beach showed higher than acceptable levels of E.coli bacteria which can pose possible health risks to bathers, including a variety of skin, eye, nose and throat infections, and gastrointestinal illness.
The beach will remain closed for swimming until satisfactory water quality test results are obtained.
The water quality of local beaches is tested by the Northwestern Health Unit from early June to the end of August.
