Putting together and distributing close to 200 Christmas hampers this year, the heads of the local Salvation Army are thrilled with the support from the community.
“The community responded very well,” Lt. Dennis Maybury remarked.
“We want to thank everyone for all the donations.”
“This is such a wonderful community. They were very supportive,” echoed Lt. Mary Maybury.
“Words cannot express the outpouring of love from the community.”
The couple admitted there were some challenges and bumps along the way. But thanks to their hard-working staff, the season was a success.
“We all worked together as a team,” noted Lt. Dennis Maybury.
“It’s been good.”
More than 40 hampers were filled by local individuals, businesses, and groups who took part in the “Adopt-a-Family” program, putting together a complete hamper.
Meanwhile, more than 50 hampers were taken care of through the “Sponsor-a-Family” program, where interested parties donated the amount of money needed to fill a hamper.
“They donated food, clothing, toys, cash—it was overwhelmingly wonderful,” Lt. Mary Maybury enthused.
And while the couple found it tough recruiting volunteers to man the Christmas kettles, she indicated the public made up for it with their extra generous donations.
“The clients have been very appreciative of everything,” she added.
“They leave here with big smiles on their faces . . . and that makes us feel good.”
Lt. Maybury admitted it is a very busy time of year for the Salvation Army, but they always are willing to help.
“It’s important because it’s the time of year when we need to reach out and love and care for one another,” she reasoned.
