As Mother’s Day nears, the best place to celebrate Mom is at the Clover Valley Farmers’ Market in Fort Frances.
This coming Saturday (May 12) will feature a variety of vendors and diverse merchandise which surely will light up the face of that special lady.
With the early onset of spring, mothers across the district will be preparing to garden. As such, the farmers’ market will have three vendors offering an assortment of plants this week.
The Loweys come from just west of Fort Frances, Loewens from Stratton, and Shady Willow Greenhouse from Barwick.
These local growers will have potted flowers in decorative patio containers, mini roses, hydrangeas, hibiscus, hanging baskets, flowering trees, and shrubs. Also choose from containers over-flowing with tomato, cucumber, and pepper plants.
Meanwhile, Rainy River District Stewardship members will be at the market with tree seedlings. There are 100 white spruce and 100 red pine to give away for free, as well as bundles of 25 to sell for $5 each.
And feel free to ask the members about their conservation activities throughout the district.
Choose a variety of plants for Mom and present them in timber planters handcrafted by Darvin Heatwole. Although available individually, a set of three planter pedestals are available for a Mother’s Day special of $90.
For a stylish Mother’s Day gift, there is a great selection of trendy jewellery crafted by local artisans. Choose items made from antler, leather, glass beads, and stone.
You are sure to find the perfect colour to compliment Mom.
As a special treat, invite Mom to the market. Visit over a delicious lunch prepared by Ryan Parisien in our market kitchen and support local producers.
Seating is available inside in case of rainy weather.
Or collect supplies from the market to serve Mom a tasty Mother’s Day meal. Pick up perogies, cabbage rolls, lasagna, steaks, cookies, and pies.
There will be fresh-picked greens for a colourful and healthy salad or sandwich. Or sample preserves from Melissa’s Kitchen and choose a favourite for Mom.
As a real treat, Rainy River Meats will have grain-fed red veal for purchase.
Looking for a Mother’s Day activity? Tickets will be for sale at the market for the Borderland Community Orchestra’s annual spring concert, featuring violinist Shannon Darby, which is being held Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m.
Tickets cost $10 per adult.

The market is located on McIrvine Road, just north of Canadian Tire, and is open Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for the season.
