Plaza Lanes hoping to throw strikes to benefit sick kids

Plaza Lanes owner/manager Dino Morelli is hoping to throw a strike as part of the “Bowling for Miracles” promotion to benefit young patients at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
The local bowling alley is offering bowlers the chance to put their name in a draw for one of 12 grand prize trips for two to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl. on May 29-31, including air fare, resort lodging, and theme park passes.
The sweepstakes, sponsored by the Independent Order of Foresters, a family-based fraternal benefit society, will run through April 26 and benefit roughly 170 children’s hospitals throughout North America.
Although no purchase is necessary to enter the sweepstakes, those who do are asked to make a $1 donation to benefit the Hospital for Sick Children.
Those who donate also can write their name on a paper “Miracle Bowling Pin” for display at Plaza Lanes.
Morelli said about 250 pins already have been sold, with 100 percent of the money raised going to the Toronto hospital.
“Plaza Lanes is proud to be an official sweepstakes location for this promotion,” Morelli said Monday. “This is an exciting way for us and our customers to demonstrate our support for the children of our community.”
Morelli said it didn’t take him long to decide to take part in the event. “It’s a chance to do something for the kids,” he stressed
Grand prize winners also will receive invitations to attend the annual TV fundraiser of CMN Champions, which will be broadcast live from Walt Disney World and feature celebrities like Steve Young, Drew Bledsoe, and Michelle Kwan.
