Plans underway for Christmas cantataStaff

While the holiday season is still more than two-and-a-half months away, Diane Maxey already is getting ready for the annual Christmas cantata here.
Maxey, who has conducted cantatas locally for more than a dozen years, said yesterday a “listening session” is planned for Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the basement at St. Mary’s Church, with a first practice slated for the following Monday (Oct. 24).
Maxey said there’s no minimum or maximum number of choraliers needed as she’s done cantatas with between 50 and 80 people.
Teens, adults, and seniors are welcome to participate, but she especially would like to see choraliers who have participated in the past return at least one more time.
This year’s cantata tentatively is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s.
Maxey said this year’s cantata is entitled, “Come Let Us Worship The King,” and is brand new.
“It’s a little short—it only runs about 35 minutes, so there will be some supplementary material we’ll be adding,” she smiled.
