Be sure to mark Sunday, Feb. 25 on your calendar as plans already are underway for the Riverside Foundation for Health Care’s “Oscar Party 2007,” with tickets expected to go on sale the week of Jan. 15.
Foundation director Teresa Hazel said the special events committee has been working hard planning for the second-annual fundraiser, which will see party-goers walk the red carpet at the Memorial Sports Centre auditorium.
The party will include large-screen TVs so those on hand can watch the 79th-annual Academy Awards show, and pick who they think will win in each category.
They’ll also be encouraged to socialize and visit various hors d’oeuvre stations prepared by local chefs, as well as the ever-popular dessert bar.
Since it is a fundraiser, party-goers also can expect to see auctions, games, and raffles in one form or another.
“We’ve got some new twists on some old ideas,” hinted Hazel. “So there will be some sort of fun fundraising activities throughout the evening.”
At least some of these activities will hinge on party-goers picking the correct winners at the Academy Awards, she noted, adding a list of Oscar nominees should be released in the media in coming weeks and that it might be worthwhile for people to do check it out in advance.
As was the case for last year’s “Come As You Are or Come As A Star” fundraiser dinner, attendees are invited to either dress as they normally would or come looking like their favourite Hollywood star.
Unlike a year ago, though, this year’s event is not a sit-down dinner and it’s actually being held on the night of the Oscars, not the evening before.
“The main feature will be watching the awards show while socializing with friends and eating lots of good food,” said Hazel.
She added people should keep their eyes and ears open in coming weeks for more information about “Oscar Party 2007.”
