‘Planes’ a go, show and shines a ‘no’

Even in the face of adversities, the Drive-In movie nights soldier on.

In an email to the Times, Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce executive director Heather Johnson explained that due to recent changes in provincial guidelines regarding COVID-19 gathering restrictions, and recommendations from the Northwestern Health Unit, the show and shine scheduled for tonight with the Fort Frances Fire Department has been cancelled, but that the film, Disney’s Planes, will still be shown.

The night was originally scheduled to feature the Fort Frances Fire Department and their newest fire truck before an early showing of Planes and a later film, but Johnson said that health inspector advised her that the show and shines would not be allowed to go ahead at this time, though their existing restrictions around the drive-in movie means that they are still allowed to screen the film. Moviegoers are asked to remain in their car as much as possible, and whenever outside the vehicle must wear masks and are encouraged to use hand sanitizing stations. Johnson also said the spaces are monitored and controlled, which helps to ensure the movie nights can continue.

Going forward, Johnson also noted that the movie nights will only show one film each night, and that they will get earlier in the evening as the weeks progress with the shortening of days in order to keep volunteers from being out in the cold for several hours into the night.

Disney’s Planes (PG) is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre parking lot. For more information about tonight’s movie or future movie nights, keep an eye on the Library and Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook pages.
