Photo contest winner named

A picture is worth a thousand words, and sometimes a little more.
Eric Rude of Fort Frances recently was named winner of Pharmasave’s first amateur photo contest for his picture of sailboats on Sand Bay.
The goal of the contest was to highlight some of the picturesque scenery around Fort Frances.
“It doesn’t have a real Fort Frances identifiable landmark,” store manager Nancy Kehler said of the winning photograph. “But it’s such a pretty picture.”
The judging was done by the store’s staff, who voted for the best among the 35 photographs entered. All of them were posted on the wall for people to examine and admire.
“It was a hard choice,” Kehler said.
This was the first year the pharmacy held a contest like this one, and Kehler was encouraged by the response. “We’d love to do it every year,” she noted.
The winning photograph has been printed on a wall calendar and is available to the public in two sizes.
The 8×10 costs $5.99 while the 10×15 goes for $10.99. Half of the proceeds from the sale of the calendars will go to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
The winner isn’t the only one who gets to see his work in print.
“Everybody that entered, we gave them a copy of their picture [mounted] on the calendar,” Kehler said.
