Photo contest launched

The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with The UPS Store, is encouraging area residents to grab their cameras and capture the essence of Rainy River District with their second-annual amateur photo contest.
“We introduced the contest at our Home & Leisure Show last year with great success,” said Chamber manager Dawn Booth. “We had over 90 entries, with some absolutely amazing photographs.”
The contest, which will highlight sights and scenes throughout Rainy River District, is accepting entries in three different categories:
•Home and Leisure (working, living, or playing in Rainy River District);
•The Great Outdoors (scenery or wildlife in Rainy River District); and
•Kids in Motion (images of kids being active around Rainy River District).
Booth noted all entries must be taken by the applicant within the boundaries of Rainy River District.
A $10 entry fee per photo, or $20 fee for three photos, along with an official entry form, including the photographer’s name, photo location, category, and contact information, must accompany all entries.
Submitted photographs should be 4”x 6” in size.
Booth confirmed digital entries via e-mail, disc, or memory card also will be accepted this year.
All photographs will be on display during the 20th-annual Fort Frances Home & Leisure Show on May 2-3 at the Memorial Sports Centre.
One photo from each category, as well as an overall winner, will be selected by a panel of judges.
The winning photos and photographers’ names will be published in all 2009 Fort Frances tourism marketing. Winners also will receive gift certificates for digital printing services courtesy of The UPS Store.
Full rules, entry forms, and the 2007 winning photos are available on the Chamber’s website at www.fortfranceschamber.com/photo_contest.html
The entry deadline is Friday, April 25.
