Aiming to make its facilities even more energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly, the Rainy River District School Board is looking to approve Phase II of its Energy and Renewal Project at tonight’s monthly meeting, which is slated for 7 p.m. at Rainy River High School.
The motion will see $2,557,822 spread over the 2009/10 and 2010/11 school years go towards the energy retrofit project being led by Honeywell Inc.
Funding for the project comes from B5 Memo Energy Funding, Good Places to Learn Phase 3 and Phase 4, and School Renewal funding that has been coming in from the provincial level.
Another motion being put forward tonight is for the approval of withdrawing $32,000 from classroom reserve to support the Oral Language project for 2009/10 due to reduced ministry special purpose funding.
Also up for approval are various snowplowing and sanding service tenders for a three-year term, as well as garbage removal services tender for the Fort Frances and Nestor Falls areas.
Meanwhile, there’s a recommendation that the board rescind Policy 6.30 (Tax Registration of Properties).
Several other policies face board approval for stakeholder consultation, including protection of privacy, criminal background checks, the budget process, board credit cards, petty cash, travel expenses, donations to the board, advertising, and hospitality.
For this month’s Recognition of Excellence, the board will be highlighting two areas—the first being Riverview School in Rainy River and its exemplification of the “The Road to Positive Student Discipline.”
The second recognition for the evening will be for students at Fort High and Rainy River High School and the effort they put into creating the new “Character in Action” logo.
Ultimately, it was RRHS student Darrell Eckley Tuesday-Willie of Big Grassy First Nation whose design was chosen.
Alongside a presentation from OPP Cst. Anne McCoy on the active transportation initiative, the board also will receive a presentation on the results of provincial EQAO testing for Grades 3, 6, and 9.
