Pharmasave looking for ‘remarkable’ women

Time is running out on your chance to recognize a remarkable woman in your life.
Pharmasave, in conjunction with Chatelaine magazine, is running a national program called “Remarkable Women” as a way to recognize women and women’s groups who go that extra mile to make the community special.
“I think it’s important to recognize the women who keep the community going,” said Clayton Saunders of Pharmasave. “[Most often] they’re the backbone of the house and work, and often aren’t given the recognition they deserve.”
The “contest” aims to salute local women who have made a difference, like teachers, coaches, mothers, teams, and more.
“The contest is not just for professional women, it’s for anyone who’s made a difference,” Saunders stressed.
“Of the two nominations so far, one is a teacher and the other is a lady in Emo nominated by her mother for supporting her family,” he noted. “It can be for anything.
“I know there’s more coming,” he said of having received just two nominations so far. “Everyone is last minute.
“The criteria are up to the nominator,” Saunders added. “You can nominate any woman for any reason.”
Nominations are to be submitted as a 500 word or less essay explaining why the woman in question is one truly remarkable lady. The deadline for nominations is April 30.
All nominations will be displayed, with photos, at Pharmasave—even past the selection day.
The winner will be announced Sunday, May 4 during a women’s health seminar at La Place Rendez-Vous by judges Jennifer O’Reilly and Pam Munn. All nominees are encouraged to attend.
The winner will receive a prize package that includes a diamond necklace and ring from Brockie’s Jewellers.
Winners also have will their nominations forwarded for the national Pharmasave Remarkable Women campaign, where some will be chosen by Chatelaine magazine to be profiled in a future issue.
The women’s health seminar, which will run from 1-4 p.m. on May 4 and costs $10 to attend, will feature booths set up to discuss dermatology, menopause, osteoporosis, nutrition, stress, breast cancer, and more.
There also will be presentations given by Pharmasave pharmacist/owner Kim Metke, among others, on pap testing, women’s prosthetics, and more.
Those attending the seminar will be entered to win a variety of prizes.
Tickets will be sold in advance beginning April 28 at Pharmasave.
