Construction crews put down the top lift of asphalt on Nelson Street, from Portage Avenue to Victoria Avenue, and on Victoria from Nelson Street to Front Street, on Saturday, with more paving to get underway this week.
Nelson Street was closed to all traffic starting at 7 a.m. today so workers could begin paving it from Veterans Avenue to Portage Avenue.
Heavy trucks will use Scott Street during this time, with detour signs guiding regular traffic around the area.
Arrangements have been made with AbitibiBowater to direct its truck traffic from the west down Scott Street to enter the Shevlin wood yard off that street and then proceed down Front Street.
This area will be opened to traffic as soon as all paving is complete on Nelson Street.
Meanwhile, the intersection at Scott Street and Portage Avenue will be closed tomorrow (Sept. 22) beginning at 7 a.m.
It only will be closed until the paving of that intersection is completed later that day.
The truck route will be completed at that time for heavy truck use, and there will be signs on Scott Street at Victoria Avenue and at Mowat Avenue to warn traffic of the closure at Portage.
