Patient visitors ordered to wear masks

Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. announced late yesterday that all people visiting hospital patients in Fort Frances, Emo, and Rainy River must wear masks.
“There are reports of ’flu in the community and we want to do what we can to keep it from spreading into the hospital,” said Mary King, infection control officer at Riverside.
The public also is being asked not visit the three health care facilities if they are feeling at all unwell.
Riverside CEO Wayne Woods is taking the threat of an influenza outbreak very seriously.
“We will do whatever is necessary to assist in keeping the influenza virus from spreading at the hospitals and in the community,” he stressed.
“We hope the public will assist us in these precautionary measures by staying away from visiting at the hospital if they are not feeling well,” Woods added.
All emergency patients and those accompanying them also will be required to wear masks.
However, those who are visiting the hospital for other reasons (such as meetings and appointments) are not required to wear masks.
Visiting hours at La Verendrye hospital are from 2-8 p.m. daily on St. Andrew’s/maternity ward, and from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. in the CCU.
Visiting hours at the Emo and Rainy River health centres are from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.
