Park fire still burning

The Tooth Lake Fire in Voyageurs National Park remains at roughly 300 acres in size.
The fire continues to burn in mixed pine and hardwood forest, two miles south of Namakan Lake and 1.5 miles east of Junction Bay.
Recent rainfall and colder temperatures have stopped the spread of the fire and no additional spread is anticipated.
However, the fire will continue to burn in the duff and heavy fuels throughout the remainder of the fall season.
It will not be declared “out” until several inches of snow falls on the fire area.
The park’s fire management staff has been monitoring the fire using aircraft since it was detected.
Due to its location, accessibility issues, firefighter safety, and few values at risk, the current action on the fire will be to continue to monitor it daily.
