‘Parade’ plans shaping up

With the “Festival of Frost” a little over two weeks away, organizers of the “stationary” parade are urging more businesses and individuals to register floats for the Nov. 30 event.
“There have been quite a few people calling to inquire about putting in a float,” said Robin Payeur of Causeway Insurance.
“To date we have six floats registered.
“We have some pretty neat ideas being floated over but nothing concrete,” Payeur added, noting some ideas she’s heard of range from dancers to a mini-putt.
As previously reported, this year will feature a stationary parade.
What this means is participants are being asked to bring their floats downtown by 11 a.m.
Not everyone has to be on the float all day, but if a float entrant wants to provide an activity during the afternoon, such as kids’ games, serving hot chocolate, or whatever, “that’s terrific,” enthused Payeur.
“It’s just like a parade but it can be enjoyed all day,” she remarked.
Judging will take place from 3-4 p.m. At this time, organizers are asking participants be at their floats, with lights on, music playing, and waving—just as they would during a moving parade.
Organizers would like all floats registered by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
As in the past, the spirit of giving will be alive Nov. 30, with a food and toy drive taking place.
The public is urged to drop off donations in Santa’s sleigh, which will be parked outside Causeway Insurance (229 Scott St.)
Meanwhile, more and more events are being planned for Nov. 30.
Those confirmed include “Pictures with Santa” in the museum courtyard; cookies, cocoa, and the Fort Frances Choraliers (courtesy of the Friends of the Fort Frances Museum); and the local Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis’ “Festival of Trees” silent auction at the Fine Line Art Gallery on Mowat Avenue.
Canada Post will have a special decorated mailbox for kids to mail their letters to the Santa.
Payeur also said children will have plenty of time to visit with Santa, and candy (donated by Safeway, Walmart, and The Bargain Shop) will be given out.
She stressed organizers are very interested in hearing from businesses, groups, and individuals who want to hold activities Nov. 30.
