Planning already is underway for the 55th-annual Christmas “Parade of Lights” here, with Causeway General Insurance Brokers Ltd. once again taking the lead as organizer and sponsor.
Slated for Saturday, Nov. 24, the theme this year is “A Christmas Story.”
Participants will be urged to recreate their favourite Christmas tale, whether they first experienced it as a story they heard or read, or a movie or cartoon they watched.
“We’re excited about it. We’re looking forward to it again this year,” enthused Robin Payeur of Causeway Insurance, noting it’s not too early for people to put on their thinking caps and brainstorm ideas for floats.
She added the theme should generate some fun floats, and stressed that bonus points will be given for making music a prominent part of their entry.
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: best school or church group ($75), best non-profit organization ($75), best business ($75), best recreational group ($75), and best decorated individual ($25).
The parade will start at the Memorial Sports Centre parking lot and proceed west on Scott Street, ending at Mowat Avenue.
Parade lineup will start at 3 p.m., with it getting underway by 4:30 p.m.
As in past years, volunteers will be needed for the parade, with duties ranging from manning barricades to helping with the parade lineup and handing out candy during the parade.
Lending a hand is a perfect way for high school students to earn their volunteer hours needed to graduate.
