This marks the beginning of a five-week shutdown for paper machine #6 at the AbitibiBowater mill here.
Citing poor market conditions for its pulp and paper products, the company announced less than two weeks ago it temporarily would curtail operations at its Fort Frances mill through March on a scheduled basis.
As previously reported, paper machine #6 will be shut down from March 1-April 4 while paper machines #5 and #7 will be idled from March 22-April 4 (two weeks).
The kraft mill also will cease operations from March 22-April 4.
This is the second shutdown in the past three months, with the local mill also having stopped operations over the Christmas holidays (Dec. 24-Jan. 2).
