OSSTF on strike today

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation held a one-day strike today to place more pressure on the provincial government.

The Rainy River District School Board had closed all high schools to secondary school students.
There also was no busing for students in Grades 9-12 for today only.

The one-day protest didn’t affect elementary school students and all Grade 7/8 programs within the high school ran today with busing running as usual.

The OSSTF negotiating team remained at the table until midnight yesterday, but an agreement could not be reached as the province is not addressing the OSSTF’s concerns.

“Not a single proposal to protect class sizes, not a single proposal to ensure students have access to the support staff but some of them require to be successful,” said OSSTF president Bischof.
