Ossachuk gives up buoy contract

John Ossachuk voluntarily has given up the contract to maintain the buoys on Rainy Lake, and was replaced by former contractor Jim Gladu.
A spokesperson for Ossachuk said he gave up the contract after becoming “really sick.” She classified his illness as “serious.”
Gladu received a call from the Coast Guard last Friday informing him of the situation. He phoned them back Monday and confirmed the arrangements.
He was not aware of what exactly happened with Ossachuk but was already out patrolling the lake yesterday. He said he replaced five buoys near Brule Narrows.
“[From what I was told], the American channel is in bad shape,” he remarked. “We’re getting [Rainy Lake] in shape and it will be better than what it was.”
The Coast Guard could not be reached for comment.
