Oscar fete promises to be blast

Get your tickets now for the Official Oscar Party taking place Sunday, Feb. 25 starting at 6 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre.
This is the 10th-annual fundraising event put on by Riverside Foundation for Health Care and promises to be a fun-filled evening.
Tickets cost $50 each, which includes a charitable receipt for $25, a $10 entry into the “Oscar Mania” contest, and a delectable variety of appetizers created by local chefs and talented cooks.
Sponsored tables also are available.
Appetizers so far include a sushi bar with Manami Alexander and Ayako Sletmoen, tequila shrimp by chef Bob Mathieson, John Hazel Jr.’s famous chicken wings, and authentic perogies prepared by the Ukrainian Ladies of Fort Frances.
Other confirmed chefs and cooks include Dave Larocque and Todd Moxham.
The popular “Sweet Tooth” candy and dessert bar will be back this year, along with the “Bombshell Bar” featuring an assortment of martinis and marguerites.
“Yum yum yum,” says Joan Allison, who chairs the Foundation’s special events committee.
The 79th-annual Academy Awards ceremony also will be aired in high definition on a large-screen Panasonic plasma TV provided by Howarth’s Home Centre.
Guests can visit the hors d’oeuvre stations, play games, and participate in the “Oscar Mania” contest, where they can choose who they think will win in the five main categories.
Cash prizes will be awarded.
“Everyone loves to watch the Oscars,” said Allison. “It’s going to be like one big living room with food, friends, and fun!”
Guests are encouraged to come as a star or come as they are.
“We had some celebrities show up last year,” noted Foundation director Teresa Hazel. “Jack Nicholson, Joan Collins, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, and Danny & Sandy from ‘Grease’ to name a few.
“You just never know who might show up!” she added.
Anyone interested in getting involved with this year’s festivities can contact Hazel at the Foundation office (274-4803) or Allison (274-9484).
“There’s many ways people can become involved,” said Allison. “Whether it’s a silent auction item, gift certificate, coupon, gift basket, or food item.
“But most of all, please come and enjoy the Academy Awards party with us. It’ll be a blast!
“We’re always grateful for any participation,” Allison stressed.
All proceeds from this year’s event will be put towards the “Just Imagine” campaign to purchase a CT Scanner for Riverside.
