OPP welcome familiar face to detachment commander role

(FORT FRANCES) – The North West Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is proud to announce that Staff Sergeant Greg Given of the Thunder Bay Provincial Communications Centre, is promoted to the rank of Inspector and becomes Commander, Rainy River District Detachment, effective February 12, 2024.

Inspector Given holds a Bachelor of Sociology Degree from Lakehead University and started his career with the OPP in 2005 at the Red Lake Detachment. Over the years, he has contributed his expertise to various locations in the North West Region, including Nipigon and Pikangikum. Notably, Inspector Given most recently assumed the role of Interim Commander for the Rainy River District Detachment cluster, where he has been since July 3, 2023.

“Greg arrives to the Rainy River District with a wealth of operational experience and continues the Detachment’s steadfast focus on community safety through effective law enforcement, collaborative partnerships and crime prevention strategies,” Superintendent Shaun Crabb, who previously held the Detachment Commander role.

In accordance with the Commissioned Officer Selection Standard Operating Procedure, the Position-Specific Assessment was completed, including consultation with the involved Police Services Boards, rendering Inspector Given as the successful candidate.

Inspector Greg Given is the new Detachment Commander for the Rainy River District OPP, taking over the role from previous detachment commander and current North West Region Superintendent Shaun Crabbe.
