The Fort Frances OPP detachment continues to investigate the following unsolved crimes.
OPP officers were notified of a theft that occurred in the parking lot near Timberwolf Lodge Road, on Highway 502 about 40 km north of Highway 11, sometime between Dec. 10 and the early-morning hours of Dec. 11.
During the night someone entered the parking lot (which used to house the Mallard’s Nest gas bar and restaurant) and cut the trailer straps that were securing a Bobcat to a trailer.
The culprits then drove the Bobcat off the trailer and removed its bucket, which is described as being black in colour with a dent on the top left corner.
Meanwhile, between 8 p.m. on Sept. 22 and 7 a.m. on Sept. 23, a seven-kilowatt diesel generator was stolen from a job site on Highway 71 north of Manitou Rapids First Nation.
The generator was a Whisper Watt 7000, estimated to be valued at $5,000-$6,000, which was used to operate the portable traffic lights to control a single lane of traffic through the construction zone after hours.
The suspects may have used the on-site Komatsu excavator to lift the generator onto a vehicle.
A small black pickup truck was seen parked in the area of the job site during the evening about three weeks before the theft occurred.
As well, a female called the Fort Frances OPP detachment on Nov. 25 and advised she had heard public service announcements in the past few days about different scams and was inquiring if the police could do an article on “pyramid schemes.”
The caller explained a family member had attempted to invest in such a scheme recently, and wanted the public to be aware and cautious before investing in any unconventional business entity.
Finally, a Fort Frances resident, upon returning home around 7 p.m. on Jan. 6, found his PS2 games, PS2 gaming system, and a bag of “stocking stuffers” had been stolen from his residence.
