OPP lay charges in robbery case

Police have arrested and charged a 16-year-old youth Friday in relation to a robbery at the Mid Town Motel on July 22.
Officers charged the youth with robbery as well as having a disguise with intent to commit robbery.
The young person has already had one court appearance and has been remanded into custody. The next court appearance will be Sept. 3 in Fort Frances.
On July 22, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Fort Frances OPP officers responded to a robbery at the Mid Town Motel on Portage Avenue in Fort Frances. A male suspect had entered the motel wearing a disguise and demanded money from the owner. The suspect then assaulted the owner and took cash from the premise before fleeing the scene.
The owner of the motel received injuries as a result of the robbery but did not require hospitalization.
Officers arrived on scene within minutes of receiving the call and utilized local officers as well as the OPP Northwest Region K-9 Unit.
The Fort Frances detachment Crime Unit undertook a month-long investigation which resulted in the identification of the person responsible.
