The opening concert of the “Rainy Lake 150 Series” was cancelled at the last minute yesterday afternoon.
The Orville Councillor Band had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, Rainy River Future Development Corp. consultant Tannis Drysdale noted yesterday.
She told the Times a new show won’t be rescheduled in its place.
However, she will be contacting the series sponsors, Tbaytel and “Ontario150,” to see if funds that were to be used for that show instead can be used toward the grand-opening celebration set for Oct. 5.
As well, Drysdale assures music-lovers that the downtown concert series will continue in two weeks’ time with roots music artist Little Miss Higgins playing in front of the Fort Frances Museum on Sept. 14.
That show will be followed by “Northern Artists’ Night” on Sept. 21, which will showcase various regional artists (the lineup currently is being finalized).
Then Daylin James will bring his “Elvis Show” here Sept. 28.
The series will be capped off with top-40 cover band Pop Vegas on Oct. 5.
This last show will coincide with the grand opening of the Rainy Lake Market Square.
All concerts are scheduled to start at 6 p.m., with admission being free.
