If you’re looking for an activity for your child, or just for you, over the winter, then the place to be tonight is the Memorial Sports Centre.
The auditorium at the arena will play host to the one-stop “Sport & Club Registration Night” from 5-7 p.m., offering everyone a chance to learn more about the clubs operating around town, as well as register to participate with them.
KidSport Fort Frances committee member Elaine Fischer noted that more than a dozen different organizations will be set up at the registration night, and won’t be limited to just sports.
“We have a variety of sport, rec and art groups attending,” Fischer said.
“We have skating, hockey, gymnastics, Guides, basketball, judo, badminton, drama, the Friendship Centre, Cadets, Kids & Company. That’s some of them.”
KidSport held a one-stop registration night last year as well, and Fischer said it was so well received that they were getting calls from clubs and parents asking if they would do it again.
“They really appreciated the fact that it was organized by KidSport last year because it’s convenient for clubs and parents to have one night of registration,” she said.
“KidSport is pleased to co-ordinate the event and equally pleased the clubs are willing to come out and share information with the public.”
If anyone is unsure which activities would be a good fit for them, Fischer stressed that’s what the night is all about.”This is the event to come out to, just because it does provide a wide variety of activities that are happening in Fort Frances,” she said.
“It gives people the opportunity to talk to coaches and club members about ages that can participate, different levels of involvement and there’s activities for kids, youth and adults.”
Fischer said that she wanted to extend her thanks to the Town of Fort Frances for allowing them to make use of the auditorium, as well as one other group.
“We’re basically also partnering with [Rainy Lake Gymnastics Academy] because that is their new home,” Fischer noted.
“They were more than willing to open up the doors for all the clubs to come in as well.”
There will also be door prizes available to be won.
