Firefighters continue to make good progress on the regional fire scene.
In fact, the number of active fires has dropped since yesterday, with a total of 87 blazes as of this morning.
That number was 110 as of yesterday morning—a difference of 23 blazes.
The 87 fires include three in Fort Frances District, three in Dryden District, two in Kenora District, and 22 in Sioux Lookout District.
There’s been 652 blazes since the fire season officially began April 1, charring 610,836.7 hectares in all.
Cloud cover was expected to move into the region today, bringing much-needed precipitation and cooler temperatures which will assist in firefighting efforts, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported in a press release.
That said, the fire hazard remains “high” across the entire region.
As such, the public is urged to use caution with any outdoor fires and is reminded that it is their responsibility to safely manage their fires.
