With the deadline for the 2011 “Citizen of the Year” award having elapsed at 4 p.m. yesterday, a total of four nominations came in.
Town secretary Lori Pattison said the selection committee, comprised of Linda Hamilton (“Citizen of the Year 2008”), Gord McBride, and Couns. Andrew Hallikas and Paul Ryan, now will meet sometime prior to Oct. 24 to review the nominations and choose the most suitable candidate.
The committee then is expected to forward its selection to council for final approval at its Oct. 24 meeting, at which time council will publicly announce Fort Frances’ 24th “Citizen of the Year.”
The “Citizen of the Year” will be honoured formally at the town’s annual appreciation banquet on Friday, Nov. 18 at La Place Rendez-Vous, and also likely will take part in the Santa Claus and Canada Day parades.
The identities of the nominees will not be revealed. Only the selected individual will be publicly announced.
Anyone who has done an outstanding job for the community in any way is eligible for the award.
Last year’s “Citizen of the Year” was Joyce Cunningham.
