Nominations now open for ‘Canada 150’ volunteers

Staff

Know a local volunteer under–or over–the age of 50?
It’s high time to nominate them for a “Canada 150” volunteer pin.
The nomination forms are now available at: www.fortfrances.ca/canada-150-volunteer-award-nomination-form
Just take a minute between now and June 30 to nominate someone in our community who has made a volunteer contribution.
The town is particularity interested in nominees under the age of 50, and hope to award 150 of the 500 pins ordered to individuals under that age.
Some local volunteers already will be accounted for by the town.
For example, members of town boards and committees will be awarded pins automatically, as will 2016 “Citizen of the Year” Ruth Caldwell.
But the majority of pins will be given to citizens of all ages, as determined by the public.
Awards will be presented in August, ideally during a ceremony at the new Rainy Lake Square, although some likely will be given out at the regularly-scheduled meetings of the town’s boards and committees.
