Nomination in for top citizen

With the deadline for the 2006 “Citizen of the Year” award having elapsed at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, a total of seven nominations came in.
The selection committee, comprised of Bill Gushulak (“Citizen of the Year 2000”), Mark Kowalchuk (“Citizen of the Year 1994”), Mayor Dan Onichuk, and Coun. Rick Wiedenhoeft, will now meet today (Nov. 2) to choose the most suitable candidate.
Their recommendation then will be submitted for approval at the Nov. 6 council meeting.
The “Citizen of the Year” will be formally honoured at the town’s annual appreciation banquet on Friday, Nov. 17 at La Place Rendez-Vous, and also likely will take part in the Santa Claus and Canada Day parades.
The identities of the nominees will not be revealed. Only the winner will be publicly announced.
Patti-Jo Reid was named “Citizen of the Year 2005” last November.
