A local couple has realized their dream of opening a business, with the launch of Izzy’s.
The opening of the new take out lunch window was on June 8. Izzy’s is located on 513 Portage Ave., and will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until further updates from their social media accounts.
The business is owned by Nathan and Wednesday Galusha. Nathan and Wednesday have been married for 20 years and they have always wanted to open a business together.
“Food brings people together especially when they are more distanced to one another,” Nathan said. “It brings people out. It’s tough but it’s something the downtown core needs.”
The menu contains soups, sandwiches, smoothies, ice cream, iced coffee and salads.
Wednesday said Nathan has always been a great cook and he uses all of his grandmother’s recipes. That’s why he named his very first business after her name, Isabel.
“She’s a great woman,” Nathan said. “She worked hard all her life. She always wanted me to have a restaurant. It was always in the back of my mind. This is the time in life to do something and try it.”
Nathan said that although there were a lot of adversities and things they had to come up against that they never thought of before, everything turned out well the minute they opened their windows to receive food orders.
Even though this is a small startup, Nathan and Wednesday invest in biodegradable paper food boxes and straws made from cornstarch. “We find that the environment has been hit hard enough,” Nathan said.
The couple said they have been talking about the idea of opening a new business for years. However, they started thinking about a takeout food place in April.
“We’re at the point of our lives where it is time to start something new, Wednesday said. “We needed a change and we needed to open up a new door. There was not much around here in terms of jobs and restaurants. Whether you fail or succeed, it’s a learning experience either way.”
