Confederation College board chair Marilyn Gouthro last week announced to employees that Jim Madder has accepted the position as the new president, succeeding outgoing president Patricia Lang.
Madder is a visionary and collaborative leader who has extensive experience in Canadian college education. He taught in a range of programs at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay, Ont. and successfully moved throughout the organization through to program and campus leadership.
In 2005, Madder moved to central Alberta and served as the executive vice-president (Academic) at Red Deer College, a comprehensive community-focused institution that serves more than 7,000 credit and 15,000 continuing education students across a broad range of credentials.
“We are extremely pleased that Jim Madder has agreed to join Confederation,” said Gouthro.
“Our Board of Governors has worked diligently over the past few months reviewing potential candidates and carefully selecting the person that would carry Confederation forward in alignment with our new strategic plan,” she added.
Madder holds a BSc. degree from the University of Winnipeg, an MSc. from the University of Manitoba, and a PhD from the University of Guelph.
He currently resides in Red Deer, Alta. with his wife, Kim.
Madder has two children, Katelyn and David, who both currently are attending university.
“We visited Thunder Bay and love the community,” said Madder. “We are so excited to be a part of Confederation College, the City of Thunder Bay, and the vast region.
“Confederation College is a great fit with my own community-based values,” he added.
“My wife, Kim, and I are absolutely thrilled to be moving to Thunder Bay!”
Madder will visit Confederation College on June 15-16, and will be assuming his official duties in July.
