The planning process is underway for a new OPP detachment to be built on the open property between Flinders Place and the sewage treatment plant in the west end of town.
According to a press release, Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services have short-listed three teams to design, build, and finance nine new detachments for Phase 2 of the Ontario Provincial Police Modernization project, including the one here.
Following a request for qualifications process that began in January, the following companies were short-listed based on their design and construction experience, as well as the qualified personnel and financial capacity, to deliver a project of this scope and complexity:
•Bird Capital Limited Partnership;
•DBF Pomerleau Team; and
•EllisDon Infrastructure Justice.
As part of an ongoing fair, open, and transparent procurement process, the short-listed companies will be invited to respond to a request for proposals, which is expected to be issued later this summer.
Infrastructure Ontario and the minister then will evaluate the RFP submissions, determine a preferred proponent, and work toward a final contract to build all nine detachments.
They are working together to deliver the new facilities, which will remain publicly owned, controlled, and accountable.
“This investment is the next step in our plan to truly modernize policing services in Ontario,” said Community Safety and Correctional Services minister Marie-France Lalonde.
“These new detachments deliver vital infrastructure improvements, and will enhance the capability of the OPP to serve our communities and keep them safe,” she added.
