The summer months were challenging for the Fort Frances Library Technology Centre.
In rapid succession, the library lost its CEO, IT co-ordinator, and most senior librarian.
“It’s to the credit of our well-trained and very competent staff, along with our summer students, who ran the library efficiently and with no loss of programming or service in spite of the significant staffing limitations,” said Coun. Andrew Hallikas, who sits on the public library board.
“All of our employees went the extra distance and took on additional responsibilities to ensure there was no disruption to our patrons,” he lauded.
“We can’t thank them enough for their dedication and hard work,” added Coun. Hallikas.
Nadine Cousineau stepped up as the acting CEO throughout the summer months and Coun. Hallikas said she did an excellent job assuming the role, through a rather difficult time.
“The library board is very appreciative of her skills, enthusiasms and effort on their behalf,” Coun. Hallikas noted.
He says during the summertime, while searching for a new CEO, the library board appointed a hiring committee and remained very busy in their recruitment efforts.
They were successful in finding a new library CEO, Joan McLean, who’s relocating to the district from Durham, Ont. and will begin at the library later this month.
As well, a new IT co-ordinator and senior librarian have been hired.
“The library is back to its full complement of staff and a press release will be forthcoming on the new hires,” said Coun. Hallikas.
