Alicia Subnaik Kilgour started her position as the new chief executive officer at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre yesterday, and already she is excited both to meet the public and work with the library staff and board to best meet the community’s needs.
“I am very excited about starting here at the library,” said the new CEO, who had travelled to Fort Frances earlier this summer for a job interview and at that time was impressed by the facility and community.
“One of the things that’s always impressed me is this library is amazing. It’s beautiful, it’s innovative, and the design is really functional,” she added. “It’s going to be a pleasure working here.”
Part of starting any new job is meeting new people, and already Subnaik Kilgour has shaken quite a few hands.
“The staff are wonderful. I just met most of the staff and I am really looking forward to working with them,” she noted.
She also met members of the library board, with whom she will be working with on a new strategic plan.
Subnaik Kilgour said she will be spending a good deal of time familiarizing herself with what already has been done as far as assessing the needs of the library and its patrons while, at the same time, be open to new feedback.
She also said she’s a true believer in the important role of the library in the community, and wants to continue to offer innovative and creative programs and services.
And she definitely wants to see technology-based programming continue here.
One possible idea is a tutorial on using Camtasia—software that allows for the creation of instructional videos by giving users the tools they need to record on-screen activity, edit and enhance content, and then share the high-quality result with viewers anywhere.
Subnaik Kilgour moved here with her husband, Tom, and seven-year-old daughter, Makenzie, who yesterday started at Robert Moore School.
The new CEO comes with plenty of library experience under her belt. She worked at the Collingwood Public Library from 1995-2011, where she was the public relations assistant, co-ordinator, and then supervisor of the children’s and teen services, as well as back-up manager of the Public Services Department.
She went back to school last year and recently graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London with a Master of Library and Information Science degree.
Prior to completing her Master’s degree, Subnaik Kilgour earned a Business Administration diploma, with a focus on marketing and accounting, from Georgian College.
She also had completed her Library and Information Technician diploma from Mohawk College, and an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Laurentian University in Sudbury.
