The number of active fires in Fort Frances District took a jump yesterday, with three new blazes reported.
Fort Frances Fire #31 is a 0.1-hectare blaze located north of Northwest Bay.
It currently is classified as “not under control,” and its probable cause was not known as of time.
Fort Frances Fire #32 is a 1.0-ha blaze located just west of the junction of Highway 11 and Highway 71.
It, too, is classified as “not under control,” with its probable cause not available yet.
Finally, Fort Frances Fire #33 is a 0.1-ha blaze located at the northwest edge of Quetico Provincial Park.
The lightning-caused fire currently is classified as “not under control.”
Meanwhile, four other fires in Quetico Provincial Park remain listed as “being observed.”
These were reported earlier this month and in July.
The total number of active fires in the Northwest Region sat at 74 as of this morning is 74, including four in Kenora District.
Recent rainfall has dropped the fire hazard in the Northwest Region to “low,” with the exception of a small portion of the northwest sector, where it remains “moderate,” the Ministry of Natural Resources reported.
