With Monday night’s meeting being the last for the outgoing town council, the newly-elected one will be sworn in at an inaugural ceremony on Monday, Dec. 1.
The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
The public is welcome to come out and watch new mayor Dan Onichuk, incumbent councillors Roy Avis, Struchan Gilson, and Neil Kabel, and new councillors Tannis Drysdale, Todd Hamilton, and Rick Wiedenhoeft take their oaths of office.
Monday was the last council meeting for Mayor Glenn Witherspoon, along with Couns. Sharon Tibbs, Dave Bourgeault, and Deane Cunningham. Coun. Tibbs lost her election bid for mayor last week while Mayor Witherspoon and Couns. Bourgeault and Cunningham had chosen not to run again.
The inaugural meeting Dec. 1 isn’t expected to include any business besides the swearing-in ceremony.
The new council will have its first two regular meetings back-to-back on Monday, Dec. 8 and Monday, Dec. 15 due to the Christmas holidays.
These will be followed by a long break into the new year, with the first two meetings of 2004 slated for Monday, Jan. 14 and Monday, Jan. 27.
