NDP hopeful to visit

Romeo Saganash will be in Fort Frances next Sunday (Dec. 18) to garner support for his bid to become the next leader of the federal NDP.
The Quebec MP for Abitibi-BaieJames-Nunavik and Eeyou will host a town hall meeting from 7-9 p.m. at the Métis Hall (714 Armit Ave.)
It’s a part of his Northwestern Ontario tour, running from Dec. 15-20, which will start in Winnipeg and then head to Kenora, Wabauskang First Nation, Sioux Lookout, Fort Frances, and Thunder Bay.
“The hope is to meet with as many current New Democrats and potential New Democrats as we can throughout our travels—try to help spread the message that Romeo is talking about,” said Cameron Holmstrom, who is with Saganash’s parliamentary office.
Saganash is one of nine candidates vying for the NDP leadership following Jack Layton’s death from cancer this past summer.
Niki Ashton, Robert Chisholm, Nathan Cullen, Paul Dewar, Thomas Mulcair, Peggy Nash, Martin Singh, and Brian Topp are the other candidates.
