Mystery powder discovered yesterday at Robert Moore

Robert Moore School and the adjacent Rainy River District School Board office were closed today after an unknown substance was discovered at the school yesterday afternoon.
Fort Frances OPP Cst. Dereck McLean said police were called to the school shortly after 5 p.m.
yesterday to investigate an unknown substance.
Police then called the Northwestern Health Unit.
“From what I understand, it was a bag of white, powdery substance and it was left on the entrance stairs,” said Bill Limerick, director of environmental health for the health unit.
The health unit then ordered the school and school board office closed until the substance could be tested and identified.
The material was being analyzed at a laboratory in Winnipeg and results were expected this afternoon.
“We don’t think it’s anything serious, but we are erring on the side of caution for the sake of the children,” said Education Director Warren Hoshizaki.
“No students or children have been in contact with the substance,” the board stated in a press release last night.
In the meantime, students and staff had the day off today, and the building will remain closed until more is known about the substance.
