Muskie girls beat Eveleth

The Muskie girls’ hockey team continued their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Eveleth-Gilbert in an exhibition game there Saturday night.
“The girls played well but started off a little flat,” noted Muskie assistant coach Chris Hill. “This allowed the girls to lose a little momentum.”
The team had not played since their win Nov. 22 against Kenora. Games against Baudette and Dryden scheduled for last week had to be cancelled due to inclement weather.
Sarah O’Sullivan opened the scoring just over two minutes into the first period. Cassandra Cochrano drew the assist.
Miranda Kellar made it 2-0 at 7:06 of the second period before Eveleth drew within one in the third.
But O’Sullivan netted her second goal of the game with just over five minutes remaining to ice the victory.
“By the third period, we were really playing like we could,” Hill remarked. “We were really moving the puck.”
The black-and-gold outshot their opponents 36-20.
The Muskie girls resume NorWOSSA action tomorrow (Tuesday) when they host the Kenora Broncos at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
They will be looking to make it two-straight wins against the Broncos. Their victory last month was the team’s first-ever over Kenora in league play.
