Muskie boys win tourney opener

The Muskie boys’ hockey team dominated in their first game at a tournament in Brandon, Man. yesterday, beating Neepawa 6-1.
Although Neepawa got on the scoreboard first at 8:59 of the opening period, Matt Redford tied the score less than a minute later—and it was all Muskies after that.
Dan Chapman netted the lone goal of the second period to give the black-and-gold a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
After Muskie assistant captain Tyler Miller netted a quick goal to open the third, he then made a sleek pass to Ryan Witherspoon, who hit the twine to make it 4-1.
Mitch Green beat Neepawa goalie Brad Braun seconds later before Andrew Easton rounded out the scoring at 11:11 of the third.
Witherspoon was named the game star for the Muskies while Tyler Buchonan, Neepawa’s lone goal scorer, got the nod for his team.
The Muskies were hand four penalties while Neepawa was whistled for seven infractions.
Lucas Romaniuk will be joining the Muskies today after missing the first game due to academic commitments.
The tournament runs through until Sunday.
