Be sure to pick up a program for the first few games of the Muskie boys’ hockey season.
The team is boasting 11 new faces on its 21-man roster, seeing only 10 players returning from last season’s OFSAA squad.
Goalie Devin Stromness, defencemen Chris Cousineau, Judd Gardiman, and Tyson McLean, and forwards Jeff Davis, Nick Jourdain, Nick Kaun, Brendan Cawston, Brett McMahon, and Colton Spicer are all back with the black-and-gold.
Head coach Shawn Jourdain anticipates Cousineau and Cawston, in particular, will step into leadership roles although Colton Spicer, the Muskies’ lone full-time ninth-grader last season, could fulfill such a position, too.
“I expect him{spicer] to put a lot of points on the board,” Jourdain noted.
“He earned his ice time at the end of the year.
“I watched him over the summer and during tryouts, and he’s just blossomed,” Jourdain added.
The contingent of new players includes four Grade 12s, three Grade 11s, three Grade 10s, and one ninth-grader.
Tyler Mosbeck is the lone freshman while seniors Chris Bobczynski, Jeff Gustafson, Braedon Keast, and Ryan Lundy will pull on a Muskie hockey jersey for the first time.
Jourdain said the first-time seniors were thrilled to make the team, and should help the younger players settle in.
“It’s nice to have a little bit of experience,” he remarked.
Rounding out the roster are Nolan Ross, Davis Ross, Ryan Windigo, Tarryn Romyn, Brady McMahon, and Scott Parsons.
The squad will see its first action next month with tournaments in Dryden and Morden, Man. before NorWOSSA play begins in November.
“We all just go into this really blind, work with what we’ve got, and hope for the best,” Jourdain remarked.
“We’ve got a really good locker-room and can hopefully put up a fight this year.”
The girls’ team, meanwhile, will hold its final tryout tonight starting at 8:45 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena before selecting its roster.
